I’ve visited Morocco twice this year, and here’s everything I packed!
Packing for Morocco means balancing staying cool in warm weather and being respectful of local customs.
Here’s a detailed guide to what I packed for my trip, organised by category, including tips and insights based on my previous experiences in Morocco and North Africa!
Clothing essentials
Bottoms
- Flowy skirt: Lightweight, breathable, and ideal for hot weather while offering full coverage. Perfect for modest dressing in Morocco.
- Versatile trousers: I packed some trousers that were comfortable for travel and suitable for both casual outings and smarter events.
- Casual trousers: I took some well-worn favourites that have proven versatile during past trips to Morocco and Borneo. Still good for one more trip!
- No shorts: While temperatures may hit 30°C, shorts aren’t ideal due to Morocco’s conservative dress culture.
Dresses
- Long, modest dress: Fully covered and flowy, this dress works well in Muslim-majority countries. I’ve worn it in Algeria, Senegal, and The Gambia.
- Knee-length dress: I paired this with a lightweight blouse to cover the shoulders.
Tops
- Five T-shirts: A mix of breathable and versatile tops to pair with skirts and trousers. These also double up for my time in London before Morocco.
- Light blouse: Useful for layering over sleeveless dresses for added modesty and sun protection.
Footwear
- Tevas (sandals): Comfortable and durable for walking around cities and markets in Morocco.
- Trainers: Worn during travel and for exploring cooler areas.
Others
- Leggings: Comfortable for flights and any workout sessions during the trip.
- Workout top: A just-in-case item, even though I didn’t stay anywhere with a gym.
- Underwear and socks: Packed enough for 11 days since I won’t have access to a washing machine.
Layering for variable climates
Since I visited Morocco in November, layering was key:
- One jumper: For chilly evenings.
- Scarf or shawl: Multipurpose, serving as a light cover for shoulders or a warmth layer in cooler temperatures.
Toiletries
- Makeup essentials: Mascara, foundation, bronzer, and a brush—keeping it minimal.
- Skincare: Face wash, moisturiser (under 100ml for carry-on compliance), deodorant.
- Toothcare: Toothbrush, toothpaste, and a small travel case for hygiene.
- Antibacterial gel: A must-have for hygiene when on the go.
- Eye mask and earplugs: Essential for restful sleep.
- Hairbands and clips: To keep hair tidy in the heat.
Medication and supplements
- Pain relief: Paracetamol for headaches or minor aches.
- Antihistamines: Useful for allergies.
- Stomach aids: Rehydration tablets and diarrhoea medication, just in case.
- Probiotics: Taken daily to support digestion.
- Bladder supplements: Part of my regular routine.
- Plasters: For minor cuts or blisters.
Electronics and tech gear
- Laptop: Essential for work while travelling.
- Universal travel adapter: Morocco uses European-style plugs.
- Power bank: To keep devices charged on the go.
- Tripods: For both phone and camera, ensuring I capture all the best moments.
- Backup camera: Always good to have a spare.
- SD cards: To store all the photos and videos for the trip.
- Kindle: For entertainment during long journeys.
Packing strategy
I travelled with Jet2 on a cabin baggage-only ticket. This means fitting everything into a carry-on suitcase and a small under-seat bag. With careful packing and prioritising essentials, it’s manageable!
My Morocco packing list ensures comfort, modesty, and practicality while travelling through Morocco in November.
